«return to past eventsCI/NC – trip to Carlsbad Caverns NP & NMSU

Things to bring: lunch, water bottle, snacks, layers, good walking shoes, a good attitude, & stuff to do (books, movies, homework, napping, games with friends), as well as money for lunch on the NMSU campus

Students must have an A0 – student registration/parent permission form and an A3 – field trip agreement form submitted prior to departure.

Schools traveling: Atrisco Heritage HS, nex+Gen Academy, Socorro HS, Tech Leadership HS & West Mesa HS

Thursday, Jan. 29

  • 7am departure from Whole Foods on Carlisle in Albuquerque

  • ~12 arrival @ Carlsbad Caverns

  • bring your OWN packed LUNCH to eat upon arrival (picnic area & bathrooms)

  • 12:30-1 Ranger talk & overview

  • 1-3pm cave time

  • 3pm reboard to Las Cruces

  • 6:30pm arrival in Las Cruces (hotel check-in & MESA will order pizza, etc.)

Friday, Jan. 30

  • 8:40 am – depart hotel

  • 9am – 11:45am NMSU campus tour with Admissions and College of Engineering information

  • Lunch on your own on campus

  • 12:30pm depart NMSU campus

  • drop students & teacher at Socorro High School – Socorro, NM

  • possible stop at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge (30 mins, north of Socorro)

  • 4:30pm’ish return to Whole Foods on Carlisle in Albuquerque
