IMPORTANT: This event has been moved back to NMSU Corbett Center.  Also, EACH attendee will need to complete registration. 

This conference is an excellent opportunity for our NM MESA high school students. The conference provides the opportunity each fall for our students to observe college students presenting their research, network with other students and with faculty, and attend college level workshops. The focus on professional development provides students exposure to workshops, poster presentations, and excellent speakers. The AMP Conference is a statewide high school leadership activity and will involve aspects of a professional conference, i.e. workshops, presentations and seminars etc. Registration is open to 35 students from the Southwest Region with an option for interested statewide attendance.  A wait list will be created with possible additional slots being provided dependent on response. Attending students will receive up to:

  • Leadership Credit (5 points)-For participation in the MESA interactive session.
  • Fieldtrip Credit (Academic Field Experience, 5 points)-For participation in the conference.
  • Workshop Credit (5 credits)-For completion and submittal of the digital conference booklet.

Programs more than two hours from Las Cruces area will need to arrive Thursday evening.  All participants are expected to stay through the duration of the agenda.  NM MESA is limited to 35 students.  Each student and advisor must be registered and approved to attend.  Teachers will be notified about approval to attend once registration is complete and/or registration will be closed once we reach capacity.  If you need to cancel for any reason, please do so in a timely manner.  Because spots are limited, we will have a wait list and would like to accommodate all interested schools/students.  Please keep an active wait list as all spots need to be filled and we will accommodate all as able. 

EVENT MATERIALS:

TO ATTEND:

  • All attendees must register individually-teachers and students.  Teachers will answer all program related questions. 
  • All student attendees must have a completed A0 on file to be accepted.
  • Schools requesting transportation, must submit a completed B4 Fieldtrip Request Form to anita@nmmesa.org
  • Distant schools will be approved to attend based on timely registration (first registered) of completed registrations, A0s of registered students, transportation cost, and/or number of student attendees

WHAT IS PROVIDED:

  • Transportation to the AMP Conference: schools must submit a completed B4 Fieldtrip Request Form
  • Lodging (as needed and approved) for distant schools traveling more than (2) hours. Students will be housed up to 4 students/room, advisors housed up to 2/room, and (1) bus driver as applicable. 
    • Lodging is only provided for attending students, registered school advisor, and driver the night of October 3, 2024.
    • Accommodations will be made by a group room list based upon registered names at the Hampton Inn I-25. 2350 East Griggs Avenue; Las Cruces, NM 88001.
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Sundae Bar will be provided for all participants on October 13, 2023.

About New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (AMP)

The New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (New Mexico AMP) is a statewide partnership of universities and colleges with a goal to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who successfully complete their B.S. degrees in the STEM disciplines. New Mexico AMP supports targeted students through a broad range of activities, including the Undergraduate Research Scholars (URS) program, the Summer Community College Opportunity for Research Experience (SCCORE), the New Mexico AMP Transfer Scholarship, an annual Student Research Conference, and the Community College Professional Development Workshop series offered in conjunction with the student conference.
