North Region Middle and High school students are invited to this year’s Rally!!
The theme for the MESA year is “STEM for Health: Explore. Prepare. Care. “
The event will take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026
As always MESA plans to provide hands on stations and learning opportunities for these students.
Remember that rally is not required, but offered as our regional event to help do some prep for MESA Day and MESA USA as well as get them onto a college campus doing hands on STEM.
- Plan to bring 18 students per school.
- This year where possible MS/HS should buspool.
- Bus dropoff works better behind the Student Union Building, there is an entrance in the front, but the driver will have to drive around to park, there may be parking available for buses in the parking lot directly behind the SUB. If there is not, there is parking at the Wilson Complex Parking lot for buses during this event which is right down the street.

When it comes to lunches-Schools are responsible for requesting meals from the school or having students bring lunches.
-
If you have activity funds available, you can arrange to use that money with me prior to the event.
-
NMHU campus has Starbucks drinks, and there is a cafeteria on site. You can pre arrange to eat there if you would like, our shirt giveaway and open house is during lunch so if you do choose to eat on campus, hurry back to the ballroom.
Similar to last year, I am asking that schools bring their first prototype prepared designs to campus. That is your ticket to rally; it is meant to at least be your starting device in hopes that you will compete at MESA Day in April.Students can use cardboard or recyclable materials to create their device.Device (per team)- 12in x 12 in x 12 in
- 2 axles (pencils, pen tubes, skewers, dowels, etc.)
- Can be made from cardboard or recyclable materials
- 4 wheels (CDs, bottle caps, LEGO wheels, etc.)
- One handbook approved propulsion option:
• rubber bands or wound elastic cord• springs or torsion systems• mousetrap mechanisms• wound string• gravity (starting from a small ramp) (bring your ramp to rally)• flywheels• balloon propulsion or other approved stored mechanical energy systems• one electric motor powered by one AA battery-
-
- a. Maximum Power Output: Mini Electric Hobby Motor 3V -12V 25000 RPM
-
School instructions- on your MESA time have students build a car:Construct a small rolling chassis using recyclable materials. Ensure the wheels spin freely and the device rolls straight. Try pushing device ensuring it goes straight before attaching propulsion method. Attach one approved propulsion method so the device can move forward without being pushed. Create a small cargo area using a cup, folded cardboard, or a small box. Secure it to the chassis. Make sure Device can move forward while holding a ping pong ball in the cargo area

B4 DUE BY DEADLINE 10/30!!
- Teachers and students should bring a lunch and might expect to be outside during some portions of the day, there may be at least one outdoor rotation. To be prepared for the northern New Mexico weather I would suggest bringing a jacket and/or a hat/gloves just in case.
- There are water bottle filling stations on site at NMHU campus. Coolers can be stored in the SUB we will make room. If you want to make arrangements for lunch to be delivered, please do so prior so that there are no mix ups with timing or hungry students.
