Sep 10, 2015 –
Thank you to Elizabeth Becker and her team at the beautiful and inspirational Albuquerque Museum of Art & History for hosting 20+ teachers, MESA staff and multiple board members for our Central Inner Professional Development Conference (PDC) on Thursday, September 10th. MESA brings science, technology, engineering, ART and math (STEAM) to life, we are real-world innovation at its creative best!
Teachers had the opportunity to bust open their MESA SparkFun kits and jump into the world of Arduino, coding and robotics. Team MESA overviewed the State competition handbook, led multiple redboard activities and teachers received STEAM tools to help students succeed. The events this year include a robotic arm judging of the following design abilities: 1) distance & accuracy, 2) object relocation and 3) a dexterity task for High School students only. The competition will also get students moving with a ‘syntax charades’ component, focus on environmental and natural resources careers and sustainability in our supermarkets. Learn more details about our 2016 competition here.
After lighting up LED’s, connecting servo’s and soldering, teachers experienced additional delights with Sheryl Chard, Executive Director of the Sofia Center for Professional Development, and MESA board members: Marquita Baca, Dr. Imelda DeLaRue, Patrick Duran, Frank Maestas, Amy Tapia and Eliseo “Cheo” Torres. We are off to an awesome school year!
