Congratulations to Atrisco Heritage Academy High School and Taylor Middle School which dominated the Central Outer Regional Rally November 12 at the Albuquerque Zoo. It was the first Rally crown for AHAHS while Taylor continued its long-term domination of the region. AHAHS won two of the top three overall high school slots while Taylor swept the top three slots.
AHAHS Team #2 won the prosthetic arm and placed high enough in other events to score 499.3 points, a mere .2 point (499.1) higher than Cibola HS Team #3 which was Rally runner-up in the tightest Rally contest in NM MESA history. AHAHS Team #1 earned third place with 447.6 points. Taylor MS Team #2 also won the prosthetic arm and scored enough points in MESA FUNdamentals to edge Taylor Team #1, 478-473. Taylor Team #5 earned third with 466 points to secure the school’s domination of the Rally.
Other event winners at the Rally included Valencia HS Team #1 and Sarracino MS Team #1 in Environmental Careers. Cibola HS Team #1 and Sarracino MS Team #1 clinched the Supermarket Sustainability event while Los Lunas HS Team #6 and Taylor MS Team #6 won Syntax Charades.
In addition to the competitive events, Rally participants built more than three dozen toys from recycled materials for zoo animals. They also were treated to a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of how zoo animals are fed and nurtured on a daily basis.
All in all, the CO Rally was a grand success on a crisp November day. Teams are now busily preparing for MESA Day events while also engaging in community service, developing leadership skills and demonstrating academic rigor in their various school courses.
