Alamogordo High School Senior, Wayne McFarland has been accepted to the Citadel, the Military Academy of South Carolina. Wayne will graduate this May and plans to pursue a degree in Engineering.

Wayne is currently an active MESA and JROTC student. He has been in MESA for three years, participated in BEST Robotics & Innoventure Statewide Academic Competitions, numerous workshops, community service and NM MESA Leadership Summit.

As a Sophomore, he took APS Biology and passed the AP exam with a “3” and earned 8-credit hours for passing. He is currently taking AP Government.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. Wayne attended Boys’ State last year and held a position as Supreme Court Justice. He was a nominee for Boy’s Nation and was given three history credit hours for this accomplishment. In the summer of 2012, he went to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with the People-to-People student Ambassador Organization. He also receive college credit for this accomplishment.

Wayne has been in JROTC for four years and holds the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He has been awarded the National Air Force Sergeants Association Award, as well as the Achievement Ribbon and the Kitty Hawk Air Society Award for three years in a row. As a Senior Staff for JROTC, he holds the position of Deputy Support Squadron Commander. He has also attended the JCLC which is a Leadership Camp for JROTC cadets.

During his service in JROTC, Wayne has worked over 1500 community service hours!
