The CW Gulch 5-Day Itinerary includes the opportunity to: hike, backpack, enjoy a campfire, eat lots of delicious and wholesome food, study archaeology, geology, biology, ecology, Native American culture and build relationships with fellow campers while also learning leadership and self-reliance. Participants will also get to see some of the most spectacular scenery in northwest New Mexico and eastern Arizona.

All camping materials and food are provided and no prior experience is necessary.

Trip costs: are dependant on how many students and teachers sign up

A minimum of 10 campers are required to make the trip a go and the resulting cost would be $100/person/day or $500 total. If 18 campers sign up, that cost goes down to $80/person/day or $400 total.

MESA can provide a 10% scholarship (up to $50) for those students who are on free/reduced lunches.


May 8th – students and/or teachers must commit to participate in the trip  with a 20% deposit

May 15th  – the remainder of fees due and completion of permission and safety forms is required

May 26th – trip begins

Students from Cibola, McKinley and San Juan counties do not have to meet in Albuquerque to begin this adventure an alternative meeting spot near the Cottonwood Gulch headquarters by Thoreau would be established for those students
