May 7, 2013 –
On April 26, 2013 student teams competed at our annual MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico. Students engineered prosthetic arms with a hand to complete multiple tasks. They launched balls of various sizes into buckets at different lengths, they had to pick up and load items of varying sizes and shapes, and high school students had to secure nuts on a bolt. In addition all teams wrote a technical paper, conducted an oral presentation, and created an academic display. Throughout the day, students also were able to participate in the NMMI Leadership Course and their low and high ropes courses. Socorro High School (Socorro, NM) and Red Mountain Middle School (Deming, NM) took first place overall in their respective levels and will be representing New Mexico at the National Competition in Portland, Oregon. Congratulations to all teams that participated!
