Nov 19, 2016 –

The MathMovesU program, sponsored by Raytheon and hosted by UNM’s School of Engineering (SOE) Student Services, STEM’ed it up with more than 165 students this weekend!  The annual event, which brings out more than 50 Raytheon and UNM student volunteers works to connect our local students with the engaging world of STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics).  UNM Provost Chaouki T. Abdallah opened the day with his thoughts on the importance of young students in STEM fields.  Raytheon’s Albuquerque site Director Steve Downie and local Physicist  Russell H. TerBeek, PhD, helped to motivate our burgeoning engineers by highlighting the ways Raytheon moves innovation forward.

The event is put on by the SOE students groups whose members volunteer their time to help our next generation find the same passion that they had as young middle and high school students.  Those local UNM campus chapters include: AICHE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers), AISES (American Indian Science & Engineering Society), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), CWE (Center for Water & the Environment), HESO (Hispanics in Engineering & Sciences), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) and SWE (Society for Women Engineers). Participating students rotated through four of the following activities:
