May 12, 2017 –

Twenty four students and four teachers from around New Mexico headed west… to the OCEAN!  This year, MESA’s Senior Incentive Field Trip (or SIFT) was focused on the learning about the ecological wonders and STEMy nature of the west coast wonder, San Diego.

State Coordinator, Anita Gonzales, showed off her exceptional tourism and planning skills with yet another stellar adventure.  Students, teachers and staff arrived into San Diego airport on Wednesday, April 5th and STEM’ed it up through our return on Saturday, April 8th.  Our trip was packed with delights, learning and fun!  Adventures included the following:

  • behind the scenes at San Diego Zoo
  • tour of the USS Midway
  • I-fly (indoor skydiving)
  • kayaking Mission Bay & fish dissections
  • tour of SDSU Engineering
  • tour of Scripps Pier and exploratory labs
  • Belmont Park
  • Torrey Pines State Park

As many of us know, learning off campus and in the great community, whether Albuquerque, San Diego or even internationally is a great way to expose kids to culture, diversity and the amazing opportunities of the STEM world around us!
